What kind of crowns are these?

Waterproof push-pull winding crown with O-ring for watch cases with a smooth tube, NOS, silver, several variants with 0.9 mm stem thread.

These are so-called push-pull crowns. You do not have to unscrew them to set the time; you simply pull them out and push them back in.

2. What kind of tube does the case need?

The watch case must have a very simple smooth metal tube.

• No thread: There must be no thread on the outside or inside of the tube.
• It is basically just a smooth cylinder that sits firmly in the case.

Whether this tube protrudes slightly from the case or sits flush in a recess (countersink) of the case depends on the design of the watch – the principle remains the same.

3. How does it all work? (Fitting the parts together)

The crown is built like a bell: it has an outer, hollow cap and a solid metal pin in the center. The small black rubber rings (O-rings) sit on this pin.

When the crown is mounted on the watch, two things happen at the same time:

• The pin goes in: The solid inner pin with the rubber rings slides into the inside of the smooth case tube. The rubber rings are pressed firmly against the inner wall of the tube and seal the watch against water and dust (like a cork in a wine bottle).
• The cap goes over it: The outer shell of the crown slips over the case tube (or sinks into the case recess). This conceals the mechanism inside and gives a visually clean finish.

Dimensions may have manufacturing tolerances of ±0.05 mm.
